My Philosphy

The fitness industry will tell you the secret to fitness is the latest diet, the newest wall-mounted workout system, or membership to an all-inclusive gym. But the most valuable thing you can do to improve your health is to stay focused on yourself and consistently work toward your goals even when the rest of the world is trying to get you to look elsewhere. The truth is that a “healthy you” isn’t as profitable for them as an “unhealthy you”. So most of what you see and hear about how to get fit and live a healthy lifestyle are short-term fixes designed to help you lose a few pounds before returning to your previous level of fitness, blame yourself for failing to “stick with it”, and spend more money to try again. This isn’t a bug, it’s a feature. To make real change you have to develop a consistent practice that takes into account the fact that most of the world is trying to keep you less healthy than you’d like to be.

To become the healthiest version of yourself, you must begin by acknowledging the hard truth that getting in better shape is going to take everything you have and you are going to need all the help you can get, including the help of your body. There are over 100 trillion cells in your body, containing millions of years of information and programming. You need to work with that, not against it. You cannot succeed at a goal so difficult while fighting against your body. Only by working with it can you reach the highest version of yourself. So how do you get your body to stop fighting you and join your team on your mission to get in the best shape of your life? Here is the secret: Love.

If you can find a way to love and accept your body, exactly as it is right now, it will join you and work with you to remake itself however you want. If, instead, you say to your body “I will love you when you look like XYZ” it will never give you its best. You must first learn to be kind to yourself, encourage yourself, and give yourself a break. Be on your team! Don't let anyone tell you you aren't skinny enough, tall enough, or strong enough. You are enough. And you are going to become even more than you ever dreamed by starting from a place of love instead of a place of guilt or shame. Every day, let your body know what a good job it’s doing for you and watch as it begins to give you more than you ever thought possible.

So love your self, ignore the fads, keep at it day in and day out, and you’ll find yourself in possession of the most valuable thing in the world.
